Organization's MISSION in the community: 
The program mission of Healthy Familes Northern Shenandoah Valley
(HFSNV) is to provide education and support for all families, and to promote healthy births and continued nurturing so that children can reach school age emotionally and physically healthy. Healthy Families vision is of a healthy, safe and supportive community comprised of strong families and individuals working together to help children reach their full potential.

 

SERVICES provided in the community: 

  • home visitation services
  • parent/child playgroups and special events
  • new baby "Care Package" (filled with essential newborn supplies, literature, listing of community resources)
  • distributors of "Crib for Kids" in an effort to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (a project of SIDS of the Mid-Atlantic)
  • Parent Resource Center at Handley Library
  • "Pizza and Parenting" education groups (open to any parent in the community)

VOLUNTEER opportunities: 
Volunteer opportunities exist in a variety of areas; clerical support, playgroup assistants; instructors for parenting classes & board membership.  Interested volunteers will need to complete an application through Winchester Medical Center Volunteer Services.

Keeping CURRENT

Child Abuse Prevention Month in April - Healthy Families NSV is hosting a Community Meeting to prepare for Child Abuse Prevention Month.  The meeting will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, 9am-11am in the Eagle Board Room on the Our Health Community Campus, located at 301 N. Cameron St., Winchester, VA.  This meeting is an opportunity for all child and youth serving agencies (Frederick County, Clarke County and the City of Winchester) to meet/discuss past "Child Abuse Prevention Month" activities/events and to begin planning for our upcoming community ecudation and awareness activtivites for April.  Please RSVP your attendance to ssneathen@valleyhealthlink.com
